US President Donald Trump this Friday praised the successful military operation in Venezuela that culminated on January 3 with the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, calling the mission 'unique of its kind.' The operation in Caracas Trump stated that the assault with several attack and military transport helicopters in Caracas was extremely rapid: 'it ended, literally, in a minute,' he said to the soldiers, highlighting the superiority of the US Army. The leader described how the forces managed to extract Maduro from a military base in the Venezuelan capital, allegedly passing through defenses that, according to him, were weak. Secret weapon and neutralized defense Trump again mentioned a supposed secret armament system, which he referred to as a 'disorientator,' claiming that Russian and Chinese defensive devices did not work during the operation and that the troops could act without being attacked. Praise for American pilots The president recalled that three American helicopter pilots were seriously injured, and praised their bravery as well as that of the snipers who neutralized machine guns during the landing. Maduro on trial in the US Maduro and former First Lady Cilia Flores were transferred on the same day of the capture to a federal prison in New York, where they face charges of narco-terrorism and conspiracy in US courts.
