U.S. citizens in Venezuela should leave the country “immediately,” according to a recommendation from the government of Donald Trump, issued through the Bureau of Consular Affairs. This agency stated in a post on X that there are “reports of armed militia groups, known as colectivos, setting up roadblocks and searching vehicles for evidence of U.S. citizenship or support for the United States.” Therefore, as reported by Noticias Argentinas agency, it advises its nationals to “remain alert and exercise caution” when traveling by road and to stay updated on communications from airlines and websites.
“Venezuela has the highest Level of Travel Advisory, Level 4: Do Not Travel, due to the serious risks facing Americans, including arbitrary detention, detention torture, terrorism, kidnappings, arbitrary application of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and deficiencies in the health infrastructure,” the Bureau stated.
The United States carried out a large-scale military operation in Venezuela in the early hours of last Saturday, forcibly detaining Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were transferred to a prison in New York.
