The United States Central Command, along with allied forces, conducted large-scale attacks against multiple ISIS targets across Syria. These attacks are part of Operation Hawkeye, launched and announced on December 19 in response to the deadly ISIS attack on U.S. and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria, on December 13. According to Noticias Argentinas, in that attack, a lone ISIS terrorist carried out an ambush, killing two U.S. soldiers and one American civilian interpreter. The Central Command stated that the attacks are 'part of our current commitment to root out Islamic terrorism against our fighters, prevent future attacks, and protect U.S. and allied forces in the region.'
