US Crossed a 200-Year Barrier by Invading Venezuela, Argentine Deputy Says

Argentine deputy Jorge Taiana commented on the U.S. invasion of Venezuela, calling it an unprecedented event in the region's history. He criticized Donald Trump's policy and the unconditional alignment of Argentine President Javier Milei with the U.S., warning against the loss of the country's sovereignty and international standing.

National deputy for the Union for the Patria bloc, Jorge Taiana, stated that the United States "crossed a barrier it had not crossed in 200 years" with the invasion of Venezuela, because, he said, it was the "first time" the U.S. intervened by force in a South American country.

With his usual calm pace for explaining topics and a notable display of knowledge in foreign policy that honors his extensive political career, the former foreign minister spoke at length with the Argentine News Agency about the process opened in Venezuela following the invasion ordered by Donald Trump, the kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro, and the power struggle between chavism and opposition forces.

He also heavily criticized President Javier Milei for unconditionally aligning with the United States in every action, and in particular for his explicit support for the bombing in Caracas. For Taiana, the Argentine head of state seeks to be the "star pupil" who "applauds all the rascally things" that President Trump does.

"Trump believes that the United States is going to be the only power in the world again, that it is going to crush everyone else and that multipolarism is going to disappear. We have already paid dearly for mistakes in foreign policy, and it is going to cost us dearly to recover our credibility before a world that looks on aghast at Argentina's embarrassments," Taiana concluded.
