The United States Department of Justice has disclosed today hundreds of documents related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who had close ties with politicians and celebrities and is accused of sexual offenses.
This agency decided to release this information a month after Congress approved an initiative that demanded the documents be made public before this Friday. In turn, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch stated that the disclosed documents include 'several hundred thousand' records, and a similar amount will be released in the coming weeks.
According to Noticias Argentinas agency, the law required the department to publish before this Friday all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in its possession related to the investigation and prosecution of Epstein.
Epstein had close ties with many political and business figures in the United States. After being arrested for sexual offenses, Epstein died in prison in August 2019, which was officially ruled a suicide.
US President Donald Trump, during his 2024 presidential campaign, promised that if elected, he would disclose documents related to the case, although his own name would reportedly be among Epstein's contacts.
In addition to the current president, other politicians such as Bill and Hillary Clinton, Britain's Prince Andrew, and even singers Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger are also said to have had some connection to the financier.
