Rubio praises Mexico's security efforts

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted security cooperation with the Government of Mexico and stated that Mexican authorities are making unprecedented efforts in their history to address common challenges on the border and in combating organized crime. During media statements, Rubio emphasized that there is a closer joint work between the two countries, particularly on issues such as drug trafficking, migration control, and the fight against transnational criminal organizations. 'The difference is that we have the cooperation of friendly governments,' he said. He also declared that they are conducting joint efforts with Mexican authorities from maritime territory. 'The government of Mexico is doing more at this moment on security than ever in its history,' added the U.S. federal official. In turn, he indicated that Venezuela is a contrary case. Rubio accused the administration of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of being openly colluding with the so-called 'Cartel of the Suns.' He also pointed out other Latin American countries that are working jointly with Washington, such as Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic. And he denounced that these criminal networks traffic drugs to the United States through the Caribbean, which represents a direct threat to regional security. Therefore, he reiterated the importance of maintaining and strengthening this collaboration between the two countries. 'What is not being talked about enough is what we are doing in the Pacific Ocean.'
