US President Donald Trump has suspended the 'Green Card' lottery program. This decision was made after it was revealed that the suspect in the shooting incidents at Brown University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology entered the United States through this program. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated in her post that, following Trump's directives, she has ordered the US Citizenship and Immigration Services to temporarily halt the program. 'This dangerous individual should never have been allowed to enter our country,' Noem added. The Diversity Visa Program provides up to 50,000 green cards annually through a lottery for people from countries with low representation in the US. Nearly 20 million people applied for the 2025 visa lottery, and over 131,000 people were selected, including spouses of the winners. After winning, they must undergo a screening process to obtain permission to enter the United States.
