ICE Detained 75,000 People Without Criminal History in First Nine Months of Trump Administration

According to NBC News, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained more than 75,000 people with no criminal history in immigration raids during the first nine months of the Donald Trump administration. The channel cites data from the University of California, Berkeley's 'Deportation Data Project,' which was obtained through a lawsuit filed by the institution against ICE and comes from an internal agency office responsible for arrest, detention, and deportation statistics. These 75,000 detainees without a criminal record between January 20 and October 15 represent more than a third of the total 220,000 detained in the Trump administration's immigration operations, which were allegedly aimed at the most violent criminals. The report notes that the figures do not include detention data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which has conducted raids in major cities like Los Angeles this year, suggesting the number of detainees with no criminal history is even higher. It also points out that for detainees with a criminal record, the data collected by ICE does not distinguish between individuals who committed minor infractions and those who committed serious crimes, such as murder or rape. According to details from the 'Deportation Data Project,' nearly 90% of all individuals detained by ICE until mid-October were men, and the most common nationality was Mexican, followed by Guatemalans and Hondurans. It is unclear how many of the detainees have been deported, but nearly 23,000 are listed in a voluntary deportation category.
