US Claims Caribbean Operations Are Legal

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated on Tuesday that his country's operations in the Caribbean Sea are 'legal,' amid the dispute with the government of Venezuela and its president, Nicolás Maduro.

'We are just beginning to attack the narco-vessels and put the narco-terrorists at the bottom of the ocean because they have been poisoning the American people,' Hegseth said, as reported by Noticias Argentinas via Xinhua.

Likewise, Hegseth said on X that 'the fake news is putting out more made-up, incendiary, and derogatory reports to discredit our incredible warriors who are fighting to protect the homeland.'

'Our current operations in the Caribbean are legal both under US law and international law, and are actions that comply with the laws of armed conflict,' the official of Donald Trump emphasized.

During a cabinet meeting at the White House, Hegseth said that the drugs arriving in the United States by sea have recorded a 91 percent decrease, although he did not specify the source of the information or what the remaining nine percent corresponds to.

Since early September, the Pentagon has carried out more than 20 known attacks in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific Ocean against vessels allegedly carrying drugs and has killed more than 80 people on board.
