The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday an ultimatum for his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to accept by next Thursday, November 27, Thanksgiving Day, the peace plan proposed by the White House to end the war in Ukraine. "If things go well, the deadlines can be extended. But Thursday is the day we consider appropriate," the American leader stated in an interview with Fox Radio. Trump made these statements after The Washington Post published, citing familiar sources, that the White House has set Thanksgiving Day as the ultimatum for Zelenskyy to accept the plan, otherwise, the United States will withdraw its support. Asked in the interview about the plan, which would imply Ukraine ceding territory to Russia, the Republican leader emphasized that Kyiv is already "losing territory" due to the war, a conflict he said is "out of control, it's a massacre." The head of state recalled that to date, the United States has transferred to Ukraine "the best military equipment in the world." Regarding the possibility that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, might decide to attack other European countries in the future, Trump expressed his conviction that the Kremlin leader "is not looking for more trouble" and has learned his lesson from a war "that should have lasted one day and has lasted four years," he stressed. The head of state of the USA also highlighted the entry into force this Friday of new US sanctions against the two largest Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, which he described as "very powerful." Trump's 28-point plan for Ukraine, leaked to US media, includes red lines for Kyiv, such as reducing its army to a maximum of 600,000 troops or ceding to Russia territories that have not been militarily conquered by Moscow. Although according to leaks the plan was negotiated between the United States and Russia, the White House maintains that it has spoken "equally" with Ukraine. The new push for a peace plan comes after months in which Trump had expressed his frustration over Putin's refusal to end the war in Ukraine and the imposition of several ultimatums to Moscow that were not met. Zelenskyy agreed with his main European partners to coordinate positions to negotiate with the United States the document presented by Washington as a starting point. The Ukrainian leader warned this Friday that the country is facing "very difficult choices" that could entail the risk of losing a key ally like Washington.
