US Merges Palestinian Affairs Office into Embassy

The U.S. Department of State announced the decision of the administration of President Donald Trump to consolidate the office responsible for relations between Washington and the Palestinians at the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem. This decision essentially stops direct contacts between this office and the U.S. State Department headquarters in Washington and places its authority under the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Pompeo.

According to the words of State Department spokesperson Tamara Brunst, based on the guidance of Secretary Mike Pompeo, the 'merger' of this office with other departments in the consulate will take place in the coming weeks.
