US President Donald Trump announced today, on Tuesday, that the Houthis have agreed to simply stop their attacks on the ships, a sudden statement released from the White House. He also stated that the United States will cease the bombings of the Houthis after their agreement to halt the blockade of important maritime routes in the Middle East.
During a meeting with Canadian Chancellor Marco Carney at the White House, Trump stated that the Houthis announced their unwillingness to continue fighting. "The Houthis announced... that they no longer want to fight. They simply do not want to fight anymore. And we respect that. We will stop the bombings, they yielded," Trump said.
He continued: "They said that they are no longer going to blow up your ships, and that... this became the goal of our actions," pointing out that information came from "a very reliable source." "They said: please, no longer bomb us, and we will not attack your ships," Trump added, stating that Washington believes the Houthis will not blow up the ships again.
