Trump to Meet with Putin Amid Ukraine Conflict

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has a meeting scheduled for today, Tuesday, March 18, with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The purpose of the meeting will be to address the war in Ukraine. This meeting comes at a time when collaboration between Trump and Putin is strengthening, while tensions with Ukraine increase.

Previously, on February 28 at the White House, Trump had a tense discussion with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. During the meeting, there were comments about Zelensky's attire and Trump pointed out the lack of respect and Ukraine's dependence on the U.S. military. In a subsequent social media post, Trump expressed his disappointment: "He disrespected the United States of America in his beloved Oval Office. He can return when he is ready for Peace."

In an attempt to improve relations, Trump announced a call with Putin to discuss the issue of the war in Ukraine. Despite having reached previous agreements, the U.S. president acknowledged that there is still much work ahead among the leaders. Trump expressed his interest in the call with Putin and stressed the need to end the violent situation that has claimed the lives of thousands of soldiers on both sides each week.

The Department of Justice reported that the United States is withdrawing from the multinational group tasked with investigating the leaders involved in the war in Ukraine, including President Vladimir Putin. Trump has highlighted the urgency of ending the conflict that has taken too many lives: "Thousands of young soldiers, among others, are dying. Each week sees 2,500 soldier deaths on both sides, and this must end now."
