The ship departed from the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia, for a scheduled deployment in the Gulf region of America and/or Mexico, reported Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.

According to Parnell, it is equally important for the United States to ensure security both on land and in international waters. The USS Gravely's deployment directly supports the mission of the United States Northern Command to protect national sovereignty.
