New Visa Restrictions Announced by Trump Administration

The Trump administration introduces new visa restrictions targeting foreign officials facilitating illegal migration to the U.S., emphasizing accountability along migratory routes.

New Visa Restrictions Announced by Trump Administration

The government of Donald Trump has announced new measures that will restrict the issuance of visas to officials from countries that, according to Washington, facilitate irregular migration flows to the United States. In a statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared: “Countries along migration routes must do their part to prevent and deter the transit of foreigners seeking to enter the United States illegally.”

The new policy will focus on government officials, including those from migration and customs, airport and port authorities, and others responsible for facilitating the transit of illegal migrants. Rubio emphasized that the visa restrictions will continue until those officials implement appropriate policies and enforce laws to prevent the transit of people into U.S. territory.

“Visa restrictions for government officials responsible for facilitating the passage of illegal migrants to the United States will continue until they implement adequate measures to prevent this flow,” Rubio stressed.

This decision expands a policy implemented in 2024 by the Joe Biden administration, which already restricted visas for those responsible for airlines and other private transportation companies that collaborated in the movement of undocumented migrants to the United States.
