Antoniou Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, warned during a briefing with President Donald Trump’s administration of the "devastating" consequences of "budget cuts." Guterres expressed concern that many countries are adopting measures to reduce budgets, which could lead to serious consequences for poor and vulnerable populations. He noted that currently the world is facing a unprecedented social and economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Never before has the world faced such challenges. We cannot allow the economy to be based on the suffering of people. Budget cuts will lead to worsening situations for those who are already in difficult positions," Guterres emphasized.
