The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the creation of a new golden card that will offer residency and the possibility of obtaining U.S. citizenship to foreigners who invest in projects in the country. Trump stated that the "golden card" will cost five million dollars and grant investors privileges similar to those of the "green card." The launch of this card is scheduled for two weeks from now and will not require congressional approval.
This new initiative will replace the current EB-5 program, which allows foreign investors to obtain residency by investing a certain amount in a business in the United States. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reported that the "golden card" will be implemented to improve the EB-5 program, which he considers filled with irregularities and fraud.
Foreigners interested in acquiring the golden card will have to undergo a thorough investigation to ensure they are high-quality global citizens. According to Lutnick, this new document aims to attract successful investors who spend a lot of money, pay taxes, and generate employment in the United States, thus eliminating potential fraud present in the EB-5 program.
