Chelsea Clinton, 44-year-old daughter of former US President Bill Clinton, responded to claims that she received $84 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which has recently become the subject of sharp criticism and attempts to reduce its operations. She emphasized that such claims are not new, but are false and misleading, introducing disinformation.
Previously, Elon Musk, leading the Republican administration, and President Donald Trump attempted to close the agency, which provides humanitarian aid worldwide, citing that it 'is ineffective' and that it squanders billions of dollars without returns.
A wave of backlash regarding American spending revealed claims that Chelsea personally received $84 million from USAID through the 'Clinton Foundation', which sparked widespread outrage. However, Chelsea rejected these accusations on social media, stating: 'This is a lie and a conspiracy against my family and me personally, and this is not the first time.'
She continued: 'I am particularly disturbed by the spread of these false claims on social media this week, regardless of their factual basis.' Chelsea emphasized: 'I am proud of the work of the Clinton Foundation, which has helped millions of people around the world, and our leadership speaks for itself; I have not received any resources from the foundation, and I never did.'
She concluded: 'Essentially, this misleading information is just noise, it is a weapon, but it does not undermine efforts for stabilization of good work, and we stand on the side of those who uphold truth, public health, progress, and work for a better future.'
As many question the future of USAID, one judge prohibited President Trump from firing 2,200 agency employees on the same day it was announced, stating that the foreign aid agency effectively uses taxpayer money, and he plans to reduce its size, leaving only 611 employees and giving about 10 thousand others a break.
USAID is the largest donor of humanitarian aid in the world, most of its budget is spent on health programs, and its assistance reaches about 100 countries.
