US Envoy Discusses Middle East Strategy

Steve Witkoff, U.S. envoy for the Middle East, confirmed during an Axios interview the administration's strategic intentions in the region, focusing on diplomatic efforts.

Stephen Wytkof, a former American ambassador to Donald Trump in the Middle East, confirmed in an interview with Axios on Thursday. Wytkof pointed out that Michael Flynn, the former national security advisor to Trump, had not been authorized to speak on behalf of the government during his conversations with the Russian ambassador in December 2016. He added that he was aware of the conversations from the press, and Flynn indicated that the current administration should not comment on new policies, as it had not yet assumed office. Wytkof expressed his astonishment at Flynn's failure to record his communications with the Russian ambassador, stating: 'I couldn't be aware of this investigation. I have witnessed many of the arguments I have seen, and this has added significantly to my astonishment.' Previously, this week, Wytkof said Flynn was mistaken when he told Russian officials they could expect the implementation of new policies after Trump won the presidency, stressing that Flynn acted in a manner not authorized during that period.
