Ken Salazar Criticizes Trump Over Gulf Name Change

Ken Salazar, former U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, has criticized President Donald Trump for his recent policies. In a statement, he pointed out that Trump's attempt to erase the name of the Gulf of Mexico, which has a history of four centuries, is a demonstration of ignorance and disdain for history, Mexico, and the Americas. Salazar believes that Trump's decisions are made from a 'shameless selfishness', not from leadership.

For her part, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she will send a letter to Google to explain the origin and boundaries of the Gulf of Mexico, requesting the inclusion of the name 'Mexican America'. Sheinbaum criticized Google's decision to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to 'Gulf of America', following instructions from the U.S. government.

Google reported that it updates geographical names based on official sources, and in this case, will reflect the change on its platform in the United States. Sheinbaum has defended the name of the Gulf of Mexico, arguing that it has been in existence since 1607 and is recognized by the UN. The Mexican Foreign Ministry is expected to send a letter to Google to provide more context about the history and boundaries of the gulf.
