Sheinbaum criticized Google's decision to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to 'Gulf of America', following instructions from the U.S. government.
Google reported that it updates geographical names based on official sources, and in this case, will reflect the change on its platform in the United States. Sheinbaum has defended the name of the Gulf of Mexico, arguing that it has been in existence since 1607 and is recognized by the UN. The Mexican Foreign Ministry is expected to send a letter to Google to provide more context about the history and boundaries of the gulf.
