Democrats in the Senate of the USA blocked an attempt by Republicans to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court. The bill, proposed by a senator from Texas, suggested introducing penalties for judges and prosecutors of the ICC, as well as for states collaborating with this organization. According to one of the Democratic senators, the bill is an attempt to undermine international norms of justice and subject the USA to criticism for human rights violations. He also emphasized the importance of preserving the independence of the International Criminal Court and supporting its operation.
