The U.S. Coast Guard issued a directive urging its members to refrain from using the Chinese application of artificial intelligence 'Deep Sea', citing potential threats to safety. In connection with the warning, which was sent by a government official, using this application may pose a risk to confidential data and sensitive information.
The new directive does not prohibit employees from having the application on their devices, but it recommends they remove it for safety reasons. Aiming to ensure the safety of personal and confidential information, the Coast Guard will closely monitor the use of the application on the official and personal devices of its agents.
The U.S. Coast Guard addressed the potential collection of user data by 'Deep Sea' and possible unauthorized access to information. In turn, the application's representatives stated that they do not collect any data without the user's explicit consent and that the application is strictly for recreational purposes. They also expressed their readiness to cooperate with any agencies to verify their software security on the subject of safety.
Currently, there is a broader discussion on measures of prevention necessary for the protection of confidential data and personal information of military personnel.
