Trump to Issue Executive Order on TikTok

Donald Trump announced that he will issue an executive order to extend the time period before the law's bans on TikTok take effect, aiming to reach an agreement to protect national security. The president had previously expressed support for the ban on the app, but now takes a more conciliatory stance, seeking to allow TikTok to continue operating.

The company thanked the future president for providing clarity and security, committing to work together to find a long-term solution that allows TikTok to remain in the United States. Although it is unclear what his legal authority will be to delay an already existing law, it is expected that the Trump administration will not enforce the ban when issuing the aforementioned executive order.

For its part, the outgoing administration of Joe Biden had previously indicated that it would not enforce the law in its final hours in office, allowing the process to take place under the new management. According to the regulation approved in April, the U.S. version of TikTok had to be removed from app stores if its Chinese owner did not sell its operations in the country.

TikTok began to resume its service for the 170 million users in the U.S. following Trump's statement about the executive order he will issue upon taking office. The app, which was temporarily shut down for U.S. users, is now preparing to resume its operations.
