Measles Outbreak in South Carolina: Over 250 People Quarantined

More than 250 people have been quarantined in the state of South Carolina, USA, after a measles outbreak was reported over the weekend, local health authorities said. As of Tuesday, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 27 new measles cases since Friday, bringing the total number of cases reported in the state's northern region to 111. According to the Argentine News Agency, most of the new cases are linked to a church in Spartanburg County in northwestern South Carolina. State epidemiologist Linda Bell warned on Wednesday that the measles outbreak in South Carolina is 'accelerating' due to Thanksgiving travel and a lack of vaccinations. 'This is a significant increase in our cases in a brief period,' she said. The vast majority of reported cases correspond to unvaccinated children. The Xinhua agency confirmed that of the 111 cases, 105 were in unvaccinated people and one in a vaccinated person. Three others had received a partial vaccination.
