Breast Cancer: Prevalence and Treatment Disparities

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer death in the US, despite advances in diagnosis and treatment. A gap in healthcare access persists across different communities.

Breast Cancer: Prevalence and Treatment Disparities

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide and remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Despite significant advances in screening and treatment that have improved survival chances, the disease still affects people of all ages, races, and communities, with a persistent disparity in early diagnosis and access to modern treatments. Breast cancer is not a single disease but a group of cancers that begin when breast cells grow and divide uncontrollably. A new case is diagnosed every two minutes, and by the end of this year, more than 317,000 women and 2,800 men are expected to hear the words 'you have breast cancer'.
