
The Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego expressed its sorrow for the tragic death of four people, including two Mexican citizens, who lost their lives while trying to enter the United States by sea and capsizing on a vessel intended for the transport of migrants. Other Mexican survivors received medical attention and were transferred to hospitals, while support is being provided to the families of the victims.
The incident occurred at Torrey Pines State Beach in Del Mar, on the morning of Monday, May 5, according to the Consulate in a statement released on Tuesday, May 6. Among the injured was a minor, whose mother in Mexico was contacted. The rest of the uninjured group is under the custody of immigration authorities.
The Coast Guard and the Border Patrol in the San Diego Sector discovered the capsized vessel where they confirmed the death of four people, two of them of Mexican nationality, and the hospitalization of two more Mexicans. Authorities found three lifeless bodies of migrants on board, including the minor whose body could not be retrieved.
The Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego continues to be in close communication with local authorities to provide the necessary consular assistance to the victims and their families, reaffirming its commitment to prioritize support and protection for Mexican citizens abroad.
