A recent study found that in adults suffering from facial wrinkles, the likelihood of developing eating disorders increases. The research team from the Yale University School of Medicine confirmed that wrinkles contribute to the emergence of body image issues related to the overall appearance of a person, which can lead to negative thoughts and behaviors associated with overeating and dietary restrictions.
The researchers analyzed a sample of 7,400 people over the age of 18, suffering from facial wrinkles, comparing them to more than 207,000 people without such problems. The results showed that patients with wrinkles are 2.4 times more likely to develop eating disorders compared to other groups. Even when accounting for the history of depression, anxiety, and psychological issues related to general appearance, the problem of wrinkles is associated with an increased likelihood of developing eating disorders by 65%.
