Recent research has shown that the problem of obesity and excess weight continues to escalate due to the "frightening social decline" in addressing this issue. It is expected that more than half of adults and around one third of children and adolescents will be affected by this problem by 2050. Published in the journal "The Lancet," the report indicated that these figures represent more than 3.8 billion adults and 746 million children and adolescents.
Emanuela Giakadou, a professor at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in the USA and head of the research group, stated: "The global epidemic associated with obesity and excess weight is a fundamental tragedy and a frightening social decline."
To assess the situation and predict the future, if no measures are taken, the research group used data from 204 countries and regions.
