The President of the United States, Donald Trump, publicly praised the campaign that Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, has promoted to combat the use and trafficking of fentanyl, one of the deadliest synthetic drugs in the world. In a recent statement, Trump emphasized that the initiative against fentanyl, promoted by the Government of Mexico, seemed so effective and valuable to him that he has decided to implement it in his country, with the aim of reducing the proliferation of this dangerous substance on the streets of the United States.
In his statements, Trump referred to his administration's plans to implement a public education and awareness campaign about the dangers of fentanyl, similar to campaigns that have been conducted in the past regarding other types of drugs. "We spend a lot of money on advertising, and I said incredible, that was a great conversation because we are going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising how bad drugs are so that kids don't use them," the president explained.
Trump mentioned that the emphasis on public education would be key to curbing the use and trafficking of fentanyl, which has grown considerably in recent years and has claimed thousands of lives in the United States. Additionally, the president highlighted the importance of how Sheinbaum addressed the issue of culture and family values in Mexico, factors that, according to the president, have contributed to the reduction of fentanyl use in the country.
During a chat with the Mexican leader, Trump acknowledged the importance of the campaign against fentanyl, pointing out that, in his experience, it is rare for someone to offer him new ideas. However, Sheinbaum's proposal surprised him. "I know it all and never learn anything from anyone," Trump remarked, then emphasized the following: "I talked to this woman and as soon as she said it, I said what a wonderful idea."
