Increased consumption of fats and carbohydrates in a balanced diet can lead to obesity, while sugar consumption is associated with the development of diabetes. Researchers from the College of Health and Policy at the University of Tafts conducted a study that showed that the consumption of sugary beverages leads to 2.2 million new cases of type 2 diabetes and 1.2 million cases of cardiovascular diseases worldwide.
Nutrition expert Dr. Maria Makhina points out that sweetness and beverages can lead to various diseases, so it is important to limit their consumption. According to her, sweetness causes dependency, similar to narcotics. All this leads to changes in the immune system, resulting in the emergence of altered genetic cells, namely cancer cells.
The expert warns about the accumulation of mutations, as this is a pathway to oncology - the growth and development of cancerous tumors. She states that most sweets, including pastries, cakes, and other products, contain hydrogenated fats, which in turn increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
This fat also contributes to an increase in levels of free radicals and acids (a process performed by the organism to maintain blood pH).
