Recent American research indicated that high consumption of red meat, particularly processed red meat, not only increases the risk of heart disease and stroke but may also lead to cognitive decline and dementia development. The study conducted by a team of researchers from T.H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA included monitoring the health status and dietary habits of about 134,000 adults over a span of 43 years.
A study published in the journal Neurology showed that consuming more than one serving of meat containing red meat daily increases the risk of cognitive decline by 16%, the likelihood of developing dementia by 13%, and raises the chances of cognitive decline by 14%. The researchers noted that each serving of food with red meat accelerates the aging process of the brain.
