American singer Taylor Swift is facing a lawsuit in filed by an artist and writer who accuses her of using a name and concept previously developed for her own project leading to a conflict over alleged trademark infringement and unfair competition. According to the Argentinian News Agency and as local media indicate the legal action targets her latest work 'The Life of a Showgirl' whose title and creative universe the claimant says resemble an initiative she has been developing for over a decade linked to the concept of 'showgirl' as an artistic and narrative identity. According to the filing the use of that term coincides not only in the title but also in its aesthetic and discursive construction which could confuse the public. In this sense there is a risk that due to Swift's international projection the original work could be overshadowed or mistakenly associated with the singer. Another point raised is that the term 'showgirl' also refers to a real figure previously addressed in the plaintiff's work reinforcing the claim of appropriating an existing idea now within a broader artistic development. It is also indicated that the attempt to register the album's name encountered objections due to its similarity to a prior trademark although the artist's team proceeded with its use in the release and commercial strategy. The lawsuit filed in federal court seeks monetary compensation and possible restrictions on the use of the name.
