NASA Allows Smartphones in Space

After decades of using specialized cameras, NASA has made a historic decision to allow astronauts to carry personal smartphones to space for the first time, starting with the Crew-12 and Artemis II missions. This move will enable astronauts to use iPhones and Android devices to capture photos and videos more spontaneously, potentially making these missions the most documented in NASA's history.

The Crew-12 mission is scheduled to launch to the ISS next week, while the highly anticipated Artemis II mission, which will fly humans around the Moon for the first time since the Apollo program, has been postponed to March. NASA Director Jared Isaacman stated: "We are equipping our crews with tools to capture special moments with their families and share inspiring content with the world."

"We challenged decades-old procedures and adopted modern equipment on an accelerated timeline," he added.
