The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Donovan, stated late on Saturday that the primary communication system for pilots in the U.S. has temporarily gone out of service, which could lead to delays in air traffic on Sunday.
"We are working closely with air carriers to determine all circumstances and ensure passenger safety," Donovan's press secretary quoted him as saying. The U.S. Department of Transportation did not announce details of the failure in the communication system and did not specify how many airlines might be affected.
According to Donovan, a team of specialists is already working on solving the problem. He added that the airspace safety system has not collapsed, and airports continue to function.
