American technology company Google has expanded access to the Canvas tool in its Gemini AI model, making it available to all users of Google Search with AI mode in the United States in English. This comes after its initial launch within Google Labs experiments last year. The Canvas tool in AI mode is designed to help users organize and plan their projects or conduct in-depth research. This will open a sidebar in Canvas, where users can gather information from the web and knowledge graphs from Google. This is one of Google's moves in the AI race, as its search scope allows it to showcase its products to billions of users. To use Canvas, users select the new Canvas option from the tools menu (+) while in AI mode, then describe what they want to create. In a blog post, the company clarified that the feature now supports the ability to write document drafts or create custom tools within Google Search. Google had previously suggested using Canvas for tasks like creating a study guide by uploading lecture notes and other sources. The feature can also perform other tasks, such as turning a research report into a web page, a quiz, or an audio summary, which partially overlaps with Google's NotebookLM tool. Users can describe any idea for a Canvas tool and watch the code generation process to turn that idea into a shareable app or game. When creating a prototype or app, users can test its features, view the code, and improve its performance by chatting with Gemini. The tool can also be used to enhance drafts of creative writing and get feedback on projects. It's worth noting that the Canvas tool is already available in Google's Gemini AI model, where subscribers to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra can access the latest Gemini 3 version, along with a wider context window containing a million tokens for the most complex coding projects. More users will now get to know Canvas, as it is now available to all users in the United States via Google's AI-powered search engine, known as AI mode, including those who have not yet tried Gemini's capabilities.
