Strategies for Energy Security in the U.S.

The United States positions itself as the largest crude oil producer thanks to fracking, ensuring significant revenues and a stable energy future. Mexico also has potential.

Strategies for Energy Security in the U.S.

To ensure energy security, it is crucial to continue importing and storing natural gas, but the key will be to increase production through the technique of "fracking". This technique has allowed the United States to become the world's leading crude oil producer since 2018, with crude oil reserves ensuring 100 years of production.

The impact of shale, which is the oil and gas trapped in rock formations of shale, on the U.S. economy has been significant, representing approximately 10% of Gross Domestic Product between 2010 and 2015. With a daily production of around 9.5 million barrels of crude oil, along with gas, at a price of 70 dollars per barrel, the United States generates massive daily revenues of 665 million dollars.

In contrast, Mexico has gas reserves that could provide wealth and security in hydrocarbon supply if used properly. Gas plays a fundamental role in the country's electricity generation, as 72% depends on this hydrocarbon, primarily imported from Texas.

The National Hydrocarbons Commission revealed that Mexico's shale gas reserves amount to 141.5 trillion cubic feet, which represents about 23 years of natural gas production, excluding other reserves. Therefore, it becomes urgent to increase the production and storage capacity of natural gas to ensure energy supply in the country.
