US Entrepreneurs Urge Trump to Negotiate EU Tariffs

American businessmen have expressed their concern over the imposition of tariffs, warning that these harm both businesses and consumers. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the EU urged Donald Trump to engage in talks with the European Union to address this situation that is disrupting supply chains and creating economic uncertainty.

The United States and the EU have been embroiled in a tariff conflict since Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum from the bloc, leading the EU to respond with countermeasures on products such as motorcycles, bourbon, peanut butter, and jeans made in the United States. On this occasion, the EU announced new tariffs on U.S. industrial and agricultural products in response to the increase in tariffs by the Trump administration.

The European Union, the largest trading bloc in the world, indicated that it is open to negotiations despite implementing these measures. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, noted that it is crucial to de-escalate tensions and find a negotiated solution to avoid further harm to both parties. The EU tariffs will affect products such as steel, aluminum, textiles, leather goods, home appliances, and tools, among others.

EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič has engaged in talks with U.S. officials to try to prevent tariff escalation, emphasizing the importance of finding balanced solutions and avoiding even greater economic damage. Despite this, tensions persist, and prices for various products are expected to be affected by these tariffs, putting jobs at risk on both sides of the Atlantic.
