US Delay Tariffs on Automobiles Amid Trade Tensions

A recent movement in the stock markets caused imbalance within hours, provoking international reactions. Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, expressed their dissatisfaction and announced tariff measures against the United States. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has not yet communicated her response strategy.

The White House reported that tariffs solely on vehicles from the companies Stellantis, Ford, and General Motors were postponed for one month, in response to a request from the companies and in line with the Treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, mentioned that the president decided not to impose reciprocal tariffs in response to any actions by the involved countries and others in the future, being this an exception compared to the current tariffs on Mexico.

On the other hand, President Donald Trump confirmed the imposition of 25% tariffs for Mexico and Canada, and 10% for China on March 3. The White House stated that the extension of tariffs for one month on automobiles is due to the USMCA. Additionally, the behavior of the Democrats towards the president was criticized during his speech to Congress.
