Trump Considers Free Trade Agreement with Argentina

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, expressed on Monday his willingness to consider signing a free trade agreement with Argentina. During a press conference at the White House, Trump praised Argentine President Javier Milei, describing him as a "great leader." Although he did not provide further details, he left the door open to discuss the proposal made by Milei.

In the context of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Javier Milei expressed Argentina's interest in joining a commercial reciprocity agreement promoted by the Trump administration. The Argentine president pointed out that if it weren't for the limitations imposed by Mercosur, his country would be working on a new trade treaty with the United States.

It is noteworthy that Mercosur statutes prohibit member countries from signing separate trade agreements. Despite this, Milei has reiterated his intention to seek a free trade agreement with the United States, indicating that this initiative should have been realized nearly two decades ago.

During his recent visit to the United States, Milei reaffirmed his position at a meeting with business leaders, where he praised the management of the South American country and its president. Trump, for his part, praised the work done by Argentina and showed his willingness to consider any proposals in this regard.
