Elon Musk, one of Donald Trump's advisors, continues to make significant cuts in major U.S. agencies, achieving estimated total savings of 65 billion dollars according to information provided by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). These savings result from various actions such as eliminating fraud, canceling and renegotiating contracts, selling assets, reducing personnel, and savings in regulations.
According to the website of the Department of Government Efficiency in the United States, some agencies have been identified as the most efficient. These include the Department of Education, the General Services Administration, the Animal Protection Agency, the Department of Labor, the Office of Personnel Management, the Department of the Interior, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of the Treasury, the Social Security Administration, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
In an attempt to reduce the number of government agencies from 428 to 99, Elon Musk has implemented cuts that have generated controversy, including layoffs of federal employees. These layoffs have affected workers in their probationary period and have been a topic of debate among employees.
Recently, DOGE sent communications to thousands of federal workers requesting them to report their work achievements from the previous week within a 48-hour period. Musk stated that failing to respond to this request would be considered resignation, although he does not have the legal authority to fire employees.
Meanwhile, federal judges are evaluating numerous lawsuits challenging some of Trump's executive actions, including Musk's role in the administration. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts has advised its employees not to respond to similar communications issued by the Executive Branch.
Musk is expected to participate in Donald Trump's first meeting with his cabinet to present the results of his efforts in identifying waste, fraud, and abuse in various government agencies. This meeting takes place amid a division in the Trump Administration, with departments like State and Defense instructing their employees not to obey certain orders issued by Musk in recent days.
