Significant Drop in Consumer Confidence in February

The month of February brought a decline in the level of confidence among American consumers, marking the largest drop in the last four years, according to a report by the research agency on Tuesday. The consumer confidence index, according to the released Conference Board report on consumer activity, fell this month to 98.3 points from 105.3 in January. "The drop in consumer confidence significantly affects economic activity in the United States, so economists will closely monitor this indicator," the report says. The level of consumer confidence turned out to be significantly lower than expected estimates, which predicted an indicator at the level of 103, according to a survey conducted by FactSet. A seven-point decline is noted as the largest in a month since August 2021.
