Analysts warn that the upcoming tariffs imposed by President Trump could harm US small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and strain economic relations with Mexico. The 25% tariffs will pressure production costs and profit margins, affecting growth prospects.

Impact of Tariffs on US SMEs and Mexico Relations

The market analyst from ATFX LATAM indicated that, due to the crisis of fear and economic worries among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United States, arising from the imminent imposition of a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and Canada, many companies are facing difficult decisions. These decisions include raising prices, halting expansion plans, or absorbing additional costs, which could negatively impact economic growth in the U.S. since SMEs represent approximately half of the country's workforce.

In another scenario, the Trump team is pressuring Mexico to prevent the entry of Chinese products into its territory, adding tension to the trade relationship between both nations. Additionally, it was reported that Trump met with Tim Cook from Apple, announcing the construction of plants in the United States instead of Mexico, which could affect investment expectations in the Mexican manufacturing sector.

According to Felipe Mendoza from ATFX LATAM, U.S. SMEs are facing serious financial pressures due to increased production costs and decreased profits resulting from the tariffs promoted by President Trump. These tariffs will impose a 25% tax on all imports from Mexico starting March 4. A tariff of the same percentage will also be applied to steel, aluminum, automobiles, auto parts, and pharmaceutical products manufactured in Mexico starting March 12 and in the first week of April.

No significant economic data is expected on February 24, 2025, which could maintain low volatility in financial markets unless relevant statements emerge from Mexico or its main trading partners, such as the United States, that could move or raise the price of the dollar in the coming hours.
