The company "Meta" announced the launch of the "Watterwort" project, within which an underwater cable will be deployed, connecting five continents over a stretch of more than 50 thousand kilometers. The aim of this project is to increase the throughput capacity and reliability of digital data transmission.
Submarine cable systems, laid on the seabed, are considered one of the most important infrastructures for digital communications worldwide. The "Watterwort" project has become one of the most ambitious underwater cable projects in existence today.
"Meta" emphasized that this project represents "multi-billion dollar investment" and is expected to provide "advanced communication capabilities for the USA, India, Brazil, South Africa, and other regions".
"Meta" plans to lay 450 cables and stretch them over significant distances.
