Global Investment in AI Technology

International companies are investing billions in AI, with major players like OpenAI and Alibaba vying for technological supremacy between the US and China.

Global Investment in AI Technology

Various international companies are investing large sums of money in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). Among them are OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, Meta, a subsidiary of the most popular social network, and DeepMind, a subsidiary of Google. In the eastern part, industrial giants like Alibaba, Huawei, Baidu, and Tencent are working on their own AI models.

The investments from Microsoft and Meta mainly come from private capital and the U.S. stock market, reflecting the country's ambition to maintain its technological leadership against competitors like China. Since 2018, funding has been allocated to research and scientific development initiatives to strengthen their position, in addition to implementing restrictive policies on Chinese trade for this purpose.

On the other hand, the Chinese government considers AI to be a strategic priority to consolidate its economic and technological power, as well as to strengthen its national security and global projection. State investment has led to significant advancements in research, competing with U.S. companies such as Alibaba, Huawei, Baidu, and Tencent.

Recently, the Chinese model DeepSeek, an open-source AI with results comparable to ChatGPT, generated international interest by achieving significant breakthroughs with limited resources, causing an impact on the stock market that affected companies like Nvidia.

Additionally, Alibaba is working on its own AI platform to enhance its products such as Alibaba Cloud and Aliyun, leveraging its extensive database from numerous transactions on its e-commerce platforms. The growing rivalry in the AI sector has geopolitical implications and affects areas such as cybersecurity and international trade policies.

The competition between the United States and China in the field of AI is becoming increasingly tense, as both countries see this technology as key to their global leadership. The parallel approaches in funding and policies confirm that AI has become a decisive tool in this struggle for global leadership.
