King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom will make a state visit to the United States from April 27 to 30 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of this North American country. This was announced on Tuesday by US President Donald Trump. Buckingham Palace had previously announced the state visit of the monarchs on Tuesday but had not specified the exact dates. This will be King Charles III's first state visit to the US since he ascended the throne in 2022, although as Prince of Wales he had been to the country 19 times. 'Melania and I are pleased to announce that their Majesties, the Kings of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States on a historic state visit from April 27 to 30, which will include a magnificent gala dinner at the White House the evening of April 28,' Trump detailed on his Truth Social platform. The US leader, who visited the UK last year, said this will be a momentous and special occasion as this year marks the 250th anniversary of US independence. 'I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I deeply respect. Since 1952, a US president has made four state visits to the United Kingdom: in 2003, 2011, 2019, and 2025.' After the trip, the King will travel to Bermuda, which will also be his first visit to this territory since becoming head of state. King Charles III's trip comes at a delicate time in bilateral relations due to disagreements between Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the Iran war. The Labour leader has made it clear that he will not enter the Iran war, but that the government will defend British interests in the region and support the allies of the Persian Gulf. Trump has sharply criticized Starmer for his reluctance to get involved in the offensive. King Charles III's trip comes after US Congressman Ro Khanna asked the King to use the visit to meet privately with victims of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. According to the BBC, the Democratic congressman said in a letter to the King that members of Congress have requested testimony from the monarch's brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, regarding his ties with Epstein, who died in August 2019. The monarch has said in the past that he stands in solidarity with victims of all kinds of abuse. The former Prince Andrew, whom his brother the King has stripped of all titles and honors for his ties to Epstein, has not responded to the request and has always denied any wrongdoing regarding his ties to the convicted pedophile. Last February, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was detained for several hours by British police in connection with his past work as a special trade envoy after it was revealed that he had once passed sensitive government information to Epstein. Virginia Giuffre, who died in 2025, had accused the former Prince Andrew a few years ago of having sexual relations with her when she was a minor, with Epstein acting as an intermediary. Photo: EFE.
