Abigael González Valencia, brother-in-law of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes and leader of the criminal organization 'Los Cuinis,' is in talks with the U.S. Attorney's Office to resolve his case. For this reason, his defense requested a postponement of the hearing scheduled for March 12. 'The defense and the prosecution have maintained frequent communication regarding this case, and the defense has continued to review the very significant amount of evidence (discovery) presented by the Government, which includes over a year of Title III interceptions, investigative reports, and other documents related to the case. The parties are also in discussions about a possible resolution of the case. The undersigned attorney spoke personally with the lead prosecutor assigned to this case, who does not object to the requested postponement,' states the postponement request filed by González Valencia's defense in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. Thus, González Valencia's representative, Robert Feitel, requested that the hearing be postponed for 60 days, to be held on May 8. If approved, this would be the third time the hearing against 'El Cuini' has been postponed. The first occurred in October of last year and the second in January 2026. The U.S. Department of Justice's case against González Valencia and his brother-in-law, Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho,' was filed in 2014. The formal indictment identifies Nemesio Oseguera and Abigael González as the leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the 'Los Cuinis' organization, groups that operate in a 'close alliance' to dominate the illicit drug trade in Mexico. The prosecution maintains that since approximately the year 2000, the accused have directed a 'continuing criminal enterprise' that has allowed them to obtain substantial income, estimating that in a twelve-month period alone they generated 'more than $10 million in gross revenue from the manufacture, importation, and distribution of cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine.' On February 20, 2025, the Department of State designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) as a terrorist organization alongside other organized crime groups. 'El Cuini' was arrested on February 28, 2015, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and subsequently imprisoned at the Federal Social Rehabilitation Center (CEFERESO) No. 1 'El Altiplano.' More than 10 years later, in August 2025, he was transferred to the United States along with 25 other inmates. On February 22, 2026, Oseguera Cervantes was killed during an operation carried out by the Mexican Army in Jalisco.
