Washington, Feb 14 (EFE). The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Friday that a regime change in Iran would be «the best thing that could happen», in one of his clearest statements in favor of replacing the current clerical leadership of the Persian country, amid tensions over the Iranian nuclear program.
«For 47 years they have been talking and talking and talking. Meanwhile, we have lost many lives,» Trump said when referring to Iranian authorities. The president did not specify who he would like to see leading Iran, although he assured that «there are people» who could take power if a political transition occurred.
So far, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has not publicly responded to Trump's statements, which come in the context of renewed US pressure for Tehran to accept a new agreement that limits its nuclear program.
In parallel, the United States has sent a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East as part of its strategy to increase pressure on Iran and force progress in negotiations. This deployment reinforces the US military presence in the region and elevates diplomatic tension at a crucial time for the future of the nuclear pact.
