Washington, November 26, 2025 – Total News Agency (TNA) – A shooting this Wednesday in the heart of Washington, just a few blocks from the president's residence, left at least two members of the U.S. National Guard seriously injured and triggered alarms across the capital.
The deployment of the National Guard, previously uninvolved in urban patrols, had generated controversy and legal objections from district authorities. As the investigation unfolds—with participation from the FBI, Secret Service, and Metropolitan Police—Washington is on high alert, with streets closed, buildings sealed, and a state of emergency declared.
President Donald J. Trump, who was in Florida for Thanksgiving celebrations, reacted harshly. On social media, he labeled the attacker an “animal” and vowed that he “will pay a very high price,” while expressing his support for the National Guard and security forces.
The attack, besides raising national security alarms in the United States, has called into question the deployment of federal troops in the capital, ordered by Trump last August to bolster security amid a surge in violence.
The shooting occurred at the corner of 17th and I Streets, near the Farragut West metro station, an area very close to the White House, according to police authorities.
In initial reports, the governor of West Virginia, the state from which the guardsmen were deployed, confirmed that both had died, though he later retracted his statement, saying he was receiving conflicting reports on their condition.
According to official sources, at least one of the guardsmen was shot in the head.

The episode has amplified the perception of insecurity in a capital already rife with internal tensions and has reopened the debate on the military's role in domestic police duties.
A suspect was detained at the scene of the attack, though their motives and identity remain unknown.
The scene, described by witnesses as chaotic, included a rapid police response, the presence of the FBI and Secret Service, the cordoning off of the area, and the temporary lockdown of the White House and its surroundings.
