Miami, Nov 17 (EFE). - US President Donald Trump stated this Sunday that New York City's mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, wants to meet with him in Washington, which would occur after months of confrontation. "The mayor-elect of New York would like to meet with us and we are going to arrange something, but he would like to come to Washington and meet and we are going to do something," the head of state told the media from Palm Beach International Airport in Florida. This would be the first contact between the Republican president and the mayor-elect of New York, who identifies himself as a democratic socialist and whom Trump labels a "communist," following the local elections on November 4, in which the Democratic candidate won as the youngest and first Muslim to hold the post. Trump, a native New Yorker, had stated the day after the election that he would meet with Mamdani if he sought him out first. One day before the election, the president had warned that if "the communist candidate won," it would be "highly unlikely" that he would continue providing federal funds to the city, the largest in the United States, but now he has stated that he will support New York. "We want to see New York do well," he affirmed. Photo EFE
