Trump and Putin Discuss Peace Negotiations

Dan Scavino, advisor to Donald Trump in the White House, reported that the call between the President of the United States and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, is ongoing and going well. According to Scavino, the conversation between the leaders started at 10:00 local time.

During his return to Washington on Sunday, Trump announced that the phone call comes after intense work on peace negotiations with Ukraine. The President expressed confidence that they might have some announcement regarding an agreement on a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine after the meeting.

Last week, Ukraine accepted the U.S. proposal to declare an immediate and renewable total ceasefire of thirty days on land, sea, and air with Russia. Putin, in turn, demanded that Ukrainian forces in the Russian region of Kursk surrender and other concessions regarding Ukraine's future after the war.

Trump's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, after meeting with Putin in Moscow, stated that the Kremlin had accepted "the philosophy" of Washington's peace plan. The conversation between Trump and Putin is still ongoing, and a significant announcement regarding the peace negotiations in Ukraine is expected to emerge from it.
